Holmes Solid With Boilers

After flirting with the scholarship offers of Michigan State, Wisconsin and others, Detroit's Dwayne Holmes commits to Purdue and he says his commitment is solid. Which position did Joe Tiller tell Holmes he's going to play for the Boilers?

Dwayne Holmes, a 6-foot-3, 225-pound, fullback/linebacker from Detroit (Henry Ford) was Purdue’s first verbal commit for the ’04 class but backed off of that commitment when more offers came his way during May.

We caught up with Holmes this morning and he says his Purdue commitment is solid now and he’s not looking back.

“I committed to Purdue early and I thought I might have made that move a little too early.” Holmes said.

“Michigan State, Wisconsin, Colorado and Boston College all offered me during May and I felt that I owed it to myself to check everything out before making a solid commitment.

“After looking at the complete picture and talking it over with my family, I’ve decided to make my commitment to Purdue solid.

“I like the campus and Coach (Joe) Tiller is a great coach and an honest man. Now I’m ready to put this all behind me and play football my senior year.

“Coach Tiller said I’ll be playing an H-Back position but linebacker hasn’t been ruled out.”

Holmes rushed for 900 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior. He was named 1st team all-city by the Detroit Free-Press.
