McEachin waiting for offers
ACC Recruiting Analyst
Posted Aug 4, 2003
Teams are still evaluating Trinity (NC) running back John McEachin, but that is not discouraging him or his coach Kevin Gillespie.
“John came into camp this year a lot bigger and faster,” says Coach Gillespie of his 5-foot-10, 185 pound star. “The normal teams like NC State, North Carolina, Virginia, ECU, Wake Forest, and South Carolina are sending him a lot of letters.”
Coach Gillespie admits that coaches are very interested in McEachin, and that many are waiting to see how he does this year on the field and in the classroom.
“Teams, like a South Carolina, are still watching and they visited to see him, but they want to see film of his senior year before the offer. They want to see his size and just how versatile he is.”
Will he have a chance to do just that?
“I think so. We plan to do a lot this year to showcase his talent in a lot of sets, and he is also our nickel back so he can play some on the defensive side of the ball.”
McEachin set back-to-back school rushing records at Trinity, first as a sophomore with 1,625 yards and 27 touchdowns. He then went out and topped that as a junior with 2,300 yards on 306 carries and 300 yards receiving for 32 total touchdowns – the latter despite missing the Tri-County conference championship with Ragsdale due to a high ankle sprain.
