Fulton Commits With A Message

The University of Illinois missed on the top defensive tackle prospect in 2002 but they didn't miss in 2003. Xavier Fulton says he'll play his college football for U of I.

Xavier Fulton, a 6-foot-5, 265-pound defensive tackle from Homewood (Ill.) Homewood-Flossmoor has given his verbal commitment to the University of Illinois.

“After some discussion, Xavier and I felt that we didn’t owe anything to Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin or any other state,” said Glen Fulton, the father of Xavier Fulton.

“We owe everything to the great state of Illinois and that’s why we committed today. Illinois is a great academic school and Xavier could come home whenever he wants.”

Xavier Fulton is a big-time get for Ron Turner and his staff. This morning, Turner and Illini landed two more big time in-state prospects in Niles West defensive back Walter Mendenhall and his younger brother Rashard (Mendenhall).

Xavier Fulton has a message for his fellow in-state recruits.

“Come to Illinois and lets win some Big Ten championships,.” Fulton said.

“Marcus Randel El, Eric Andino, Nate Lyles, Roland Martin and Sam Carson are some of the guys I’d like to come to Illinois with me and sign with me in February.”

Xavier Fulton has been named to the all Big Ten region team by TheInsiders.com recruiting team and he begins his senior season this Friday night against Chicago (St. Rita).
