After hours of reviewing camp notes and studying film, here is an early season look at the top thirty players in the Maryland/DC area.

1.

Derrick Harvey 6-5/225/4.65 DE  E. Roosevelt HS (MD) LM: 1
One of the fastest rising names in recruiting today is that of Derrick Harvey, who recently completed his first year of playing the sport.  With an 81 inch wing-span, 335 pound bench, and 495 pound squat, his combination of athleticism, speed, power and upside certainly places him as one of the top defensive ends in the nation.

2. Derrick McPhearson 6-1/185/4.4 WR  DeMatha HS (MD) LM: 3
  Derrick McPhearson

Speedy yet shifty receiver, plenty of schools covet McPhearson's ability to get behind the defensive backs for the deep balls.  He had good hands, and a knowledge to beat corners playing on the line for an easy opening.  McPhearson would like to play baseball, in addition to football, in college.

3. Doug Dutch 6-0/190/4.34 WR  Gonzaga  HS (DC) LM: 2

On a team which does not throw the ball very often, the interest in Dutch surprised those closest to him.  However, it is the speed and fluid motion with which Dutch receives and carries the ball that puts him in elite company in the region and even the country.  He explodes off the snap and drives corners well back, even when they playing well off of the line.

4. Dane Randolph 6-4/245/4.7 DE  Wilde Lake HS (MD) LM: 5

Dane Randolph

Randolph is a great-looking defensive end that is quick off the ball and uses his size to out-wrestle offensive linemen.  He is one of the top at his position in the nation, and many schools are quickly coming in to take a look at Randolph's game.  However, he is firmly committed to the Terps.

5. Scott Burley 6-6/330/4.9 OL  Woodlawn HS (MD) LM: 4

Scott Burley

Burley is an apt name for a man of his size.  That said, he is also very athletic, and running a sub-5.0 40 according to his coach.  While he is probably a little closer to a 5.2, he can also nearly accomplish a split just to show his flexibility.  Burley is committed to Maryland, and could be an immediate impact for the home-state team.

Best of the Rest:
