Devonta commits to UVa

For quite some time, Charlottesville (VA) linebacker Devonta Brown said that he was just waiting a little bit to commit. However he has now made public his decision to commit to Virginia.

“I have no idea why I wanted to wait on it,” says the 6-foot-2, 235 pounder. “I committed to them about a month and a few days ago but told them that I did not want it out yet. I committed while I was up there at a practice. There was a team meeting and I walked up to Coach Groh and just told him that I wanted to commit. They were excited.”

So why did Brown want to hold off on making the announcement public?

“I wanted to see what other schools were going to offer me so I could have a variety of schools to choose from. But, I really hadn’t sent out tape. A lot of schools said that was the reason they did not offer me.”

The ultimate decision was fairly easy for Brown.

“It really wasn’t hard at all. It was my only offer, but that was not the only reason I chose the school. It fits me also. I didn’t want to go to school far away, I can play my type of game, and I could possibly play early. It is somewhere I can get a good degree, and they have great academics.”
