Recruiting: First Look At RB DeMyron Martin
This kid's stock is rising after gaining the eye of college coaching staffs with incredible numbers throughout the playoffs in the state's largest classification. And as a result, recruiters have taken notice, especially since he isn't expected to have any problems qualifying. Martin is 6-1.5, 195 pounds, 4.5 forty with scholarship offers from TCU, SMU, Tulsa and New Mexico State. More could be on the way as a steady stream of college coaches have recently visited Allen, according to Allen offensive coordinator Tom Westerberg, with several of those expected to make their way to Texas Stadium for this weekend's state semi-final match-up against Southlake Carroll. Let's take a look at some his playoff performances thus far: Against Plano West in the district championship game, kid went crazy, racking up 350 yards on 25 carries. In the Dallas Samuel game, he wasn't really needed, toting the rock five times for 80 yards. The following week, against a good Garland team, Martin rang up 150-plus on only 15 attempts. District 15-5A powerhouse/defensive juggernaut Klein Forest: 175 yards on 22 carries. Last week, against Leander, kid tore it up with 229 yards on 23 touches. What will he do this week? Might want to trip to Texas Stadium 4 p.m. (this Saturday) to find out... So who is he looking at? "SMU and TCU," Martin said. "They've offered scholarships, are close to home and I can get a good education there." Anyone who has yet to offer Martin that he may be interested in? "Texas A&M told my teammate (Chris Smith) that they're offering and I would look at them," he said. "And I would look at Texas and Texas Tech too. But they haven't offered yet." Keep an eye on this kid. And don't be surprised to see some of the big boys step up with an offer in the near future either. Time will tell...and we'll be on top of it...stay tuned!
