Michigan's Ryan McDonald says he'll follow in his fathers footsteps and play his college football in the Big Ten.

“I committed to Illinois (12-12) on my visit,” said offensive lineman Ryan McDonald.

“Coach Turner offered me on Sunday and I jumped on it. Illinois runs in my family. My father (Phil McDonald) played football at Illinois and was a center.

“My mother is also an Illinois graduate. Academics were a huge factor in my decision. I’m going to major in engineering and Illinois has one of the best schools in the country for my intended major.

“The Parade All-American, Martin O’Donnell was my host. I got along great with the players and Illinois has a very good (coaching) staff.”

McDonald, a 6-foot-5, 260-pounder from Holland (MI) West Ottawa is a three-year varsity starter.

Ryan was an honorable mention all-state selection. He chose Illinois over Toledo, Western, Central and Eastern Michigan.
