There are 14 days left until signing day, coaches are flying all over the country trying to to put the icing on their recruiting cake so to speak. These coaches are not only trying to land commitments from prospects still on their board but they are also visiting committed prospects making sure they are still in the boat. Let’s take a look at the Big Ten (including Notre Dame ) rankings two weeks before the prospects break out the ink and sign on the dotted line.

#12 - INDIANA

Gerry DiNardo has done a very good job in 2003-’04. Indiana threw as many stones as possible by offering just about any prospect they thought had the ability to play Big Ten Football. Those stones hit 3-star quarterback Mike Vlahogeroge (Lafayette, Ind.) and 2-star signal caller Grant Gregory (Athens, OH). Gregory was a 3-star quarterback but dropped to two-stars after the Big Ten “Hot 100” was re-released and Grant fell off the list. Moving up in the rankings was offensive linemen Jim Jadron (Joliet, Ill.) and Sean Edmundson (Greenwood, Ind.) Both Jadron and Edmundson are all-state performers and 3-star prospects.

#11 - ILLINOIS

It’s not going to get any easier for Ron Turner so he better buckle down and turn his attention to recruiting in-state. Turner had to fire his defensive coordinator this year and there’s only so many limbs he’ll be able to cut off before he’s the one getting the ax. Iowa and Wisconsin consider Illinois “home turf” when it comes to recruiting and now with Chicago’s Bill Callahan and Kevin Cosgrove taking over at Nebraska, things will be even tougher on the Illinois staff. The Fighting Illini do have commitments from sensational athlete Remond Willis (New Madrid, Mo.) and interior lineman Xavier Fulton (Flossmoor, Ill.). Linebacker Russ Weil (Minooka, Ill.) is underrated. Weil will definitely bring speed and toughness to the Fighting Illini defense.

#10 - NORTHWESTERN

Randy Walker didn’t have very many schollies to hand out this year but he made the most of what he did have to give. The Wildcats will sign 14 prospects in February from five different states led by three prospects from the Lone Star State. Walker has to be happy with his Texas haul. Rajaie Johnson (La Marque) was recently offered by Notre Dame, Brandon Roberson (Pearland) was up for Player of the Year honors in Houston and Kevin Mims (The Woodlands) is still being recruited by Texas A&M and others. The sleeper of this class has to be Illinois tight end Ryan Cibulka (Lake Park). Cibulka is the most underrated prospect in the Land of Lincoln.
