Latest Offer A Big Deal

When Pete Carroll and USC offered Dan Doering a scholarship it was an eye opening, jaw dropping experience. Even Doering's friends told him to get on a plane and head west.

Barrington, Illinois offensive tackle Dan Doering is becoming one of the nation’s most sought after prospects.

The 6-foot-7, 290-pounder is up to 12 scholarship offers now and his most recent offer just might be the most exciting of the bunch.

“USC, UCLA, Nebraska and Arizona are my latest offers,” said Doering.

“My friends at school are used to me getting scholarship offers now but when they found out I had an offer from USC, their eyes lit up and told me that I better commit.

“I spoke with Coach (Pete) Carroll on the phone for about three hours. I spoke with a lot of the coaches at USC.

“Coach Carroll told me that they really don’t need to recruit outside the state of California but when they saw my highlight tape, they knew they had to offer me a scholarship.

“I’m going to spend my spring break (Late March) in Southern California visiting USC and UCLA.”

By the end of May, Dan Doering should be up to 30 scholarship offers. Has he began to think about narrowing down his school choices?

“I’d like to be down to 8-10 schools by the end of the summer and go from there.” Doering said.

“I’ve visited a lot of schools lately. Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Northweestern, Illinois and Notre Dame.

“Everything is happening so fast, every school has their positives and negatives. I’m just going to take my time and take my visits.”

Doering is perhaps the best left tackle prospect in the nation. I’ve only seen one prospect with as much athleticism as Doering and that’s Ohio State verbal commitment Alex Boone.
