Chicago's Top QB Prospect?
Every year there seems to be a sleeper that pops up out of nowhere and this year is no different as 6-foot-3, 185-pound quarterback Mike Kafka has taken the Midwest by storm. Kafka is from Chicago (St. Rita) and he joins Lockport's Jake Christensen and Park Ridge (Maine South) gunslinger Sean Price as D-1 quarterback prospects in the Land of Lincoln. Kafka is unproven as he had to play wide receiver last year and he doesn't have the experience of Christensen or Price but he's definitely the better prospect of all three. Mike Kafka blew away all the coaches in attendance at the TheInsiders/MSL combine this past weekend with his ability to make every throw on the football field and even threw the football with touch when needed. St. Rita head coach Todd Kuska had some very impressive things to say about his prized recruit. "I knew Mike would be a D-1 quarterback recruit," Kuska said. "We had to use him at wide receiver last year because that's where we needed him and because of his athleticism but he was definitely the best quarterback on our team. "Mike has a very strong arm, he's athletic and he's very poised. He can make every throw on the football field and I was telling everyone during the banquet circuit last winter how good he was going to be." Mike Kafka is going to get his fair share of scholarship offers in the spring and during the summer. He has a stronger arm and he's bigger than former Brother Rice and current Illinois quarterback Chris Pazan and Pazan was offered by the University of Michigan. Don't be surprised if you see both Michigan and Illinois offer Kafka a scholarship in the next couple of months. "I don't have any scholarship offers yet," said Mike Kafka. I'm just now starting to get a lot of letters. Not many schools know about me because I didn't play a lot of quarterback last year. "My favorites right now would be Notre Dame, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa and Kentucky." Mike Kafka will be hitting the camp circuit this year and he could end up being one of the most sought after prospects in the Midwest come August.
