When it comes to outside linebacker prospects Ryan Reynolds will be one of the most sought after in the country among the class of 2005. Reynolds is a solid 6-2 and 220 pounds from Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman High School. Last Wednesday, five members of TheInsiders.com recruiting team traveled to Las Vegas to watch the senior to be practice. No one was disappointed.
The first thing you notice about Reynolds is his size. This kid is built like a tank. According to his head coach, David White, he recently bench pressed 185 pounds over 40 times (380 max). Reynolds can also run in the 4.5 range and has incredible quickness. Last week at practice he ran two sub-4.0 shuttles, which for a prospect of his size is outstanding.
Another thing you quickly notice when watching him practice is his motor. For every drill and every rep he gives 100% effort every single time for the duration of practice. He doesn’t take anything for granted and wants to get better each and every day.
Reynolds is a linebacker that has super reactions and the ability to read and react very quickly. Once he reads a play he explodes to the ball and he has a great burst from getting from point A to point B.
Reynolds is also a versatile player. He is also a standout at fullback where he can run, block and catch.
Although we only chatted with Ryan only briefly after practice he did tell Allen Wallace of TheInsiders.com that at this time he does have a school favorite. Rumors are that he could be Oklahoma bound. What did Ryan have to say about that?
”I would give Oklahoma a slight advantage,” said Reynolds. “I would say that I am about 70% sure that I’ll go there. I also like LSU, Michigan, Florida, Notre Dame and Miami.”
But you got the sense that Ryan will take his time and do his school research before making his decision. I hope to have an extensive interview tonight with Reynolds that I will post this week.
After practice we all had a chance to sit down with Coach White in his office to watch some film of Mr. Reynolds. It didn’t disappoint. See for yourself with the clips below.
