Looking to Maximize Potential as a Quarterback
Ask a college quarterback coach his perfect quarterback, and he should respond a winner. Coaches traditionally recruit the position to find a kid that wants to be the leader of the team and lead his respective team to glory. Plfugerville's Todd Walker has grown up being the star quarterback, and that is largely been due to his overwhelming athleticism. Due to his freakish athletic ability, Walker has also been prodominently mentioned at other positions. "I want to play quarterback in college," said Walker. "I've done my research on what teams ulitize their quarterback to the type of offense that I play best, and I came away with a few schools in mind." One of those schools is the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, whom Walker will be unofficially visiting this Friday. "I'm heading down there on Friday. After I did my research, I thought of Georgia Tech as a great school for myself, and they had already offered. I've spoken to all of their coaches, and they've let me know I'd be the only quarterback they'd take in this class and that I'm the only one they've currently offered." He also likes Georgia Tech's current quarterback situation. "They have a sophmore quarterback right now, and I want to red-shirt to take a year to develop. I'd be a red-shirt freshman when he is a senior, and I believe I'd be prepared to compete for the starting job the following year." Two other schools that Walker has become more comfortable with the quarterback situation are Kansas State and Houston. "Kansas State has told me they see me strictly as a quarterback, and they want to sign two quarterbacks in this class. I've worked with Coach (Art) Briles my entire life, and that may actually be the best option for myself at quarterback. I know I'd have the chance to play early, and play under a man who would take advantage of my skills." Who are the other top schools currently on Walker's list? "Obviously, I have strong interest in Texas, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M. I've grown up watching those programs my whole life, and know a lot about their programs. I'm also interested in Arkansas and Miami(FL), who just offered me recently as an athlete. The Hurricanes and Texas are the only schools I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have much of a chance at quarterback, but all the others have said they will give me a shot at quarterback." So does Walker believe he will prefer to stay close to home when it comes decision time? "Honestly, if my best option is in-state then I will stay around the area, otherwise, I will go where ever I feel best suited. I'm going to graduate early in December, and I'm not sure how that will affect my decision. I would like to be able to schedule a few official visits if at all possible, but we'll see what happens."
