One of the great things about having this job is finding out about new prospects, prospects that don’t get much publicity but you know, once you see them, that they can play at a high level. Such is the case with wide receiver LaVar Lobdell from Syracuse (N.Y.) Christian Brothers Academy.
Several weeks ago I made a call to Joe Casamento, the head coach of Christian Brothers. I was calling about quarterback Greg Paulus (Duke basketball commitment and one of the top QB prospects in America this season). After our conversation wound down about Paulus, Coach Casamento started telling me about a wide receiver that he coached at CBA named LaVar Lobdell.
"Lavar is a smart kid and a good route runner," said Coach Casamento. "He's a tall wide receiver that can run and he has some shake. He is big time.”
Coach Casamento was right. After watching his film yesterday I was very impressed with Lobdell. According to his coach he now has scholarship offers from Syracuse, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Arizona State, Pittsburgh and others. Schools like USC, Miami and Virginia are showing great interest.
Lobdell has great size at 6-3 and 194 pounds. Last season he scored 18 touchdowns and was the state champ in the 110 hurdles. As a football player Lobdell has the size and speed (4.5 range). He is a deep threat, can go over the middle or take the short pass the distance. Lobdell will go and get the ball in traffic and shows great concentration. He also excels returning kicks.
See for yourself this exciting wide receiver from the state of New York.
