This is insane. Just when it seems like they can’t pull another, Virginia has once again increased their commitment total with the addition of Salem (N.J.) linebacker Lamont Robinson. For Robinson, though, his mind was made up at the conclusion of his unofficial visit to Charlottesville.
“I made a trip to the University of Virginia in April to go to one of their spring practices,” said Robinson. “Since I went down there and visited that school, it has been my number one school.”
The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder didn’t commit on the spot because he wanted to grant other schools the opportunity to steal him from the Cavaliers’ grasps.
“Basically the whole process with me was talking with different schools and seeing who could do something to beat out Virginia or do something that would put them over top of Virginia.”
Everything came to a head this week, trigger by big time commitments from Virginia Beach (Va.) Salem defensive end/tight end Antonio Appleby, Plainfield (N.J.) blue chip lineman Eugene Monroe, and St. Albans (N.Y.) Holy Cross wide receiver Kevin Ogletree.
“I felt 100% comfortable with Virginia since I left on that day,” stated Robinson. “Then over the past week or so they got a few big commitments which looked good in my eyes. It basically let me know things are going well over there and things were filling up over there. I just knew I wanted to be apart of it and didn’t want to miss my opportunity.”
After speaking with Head Coach Al Groh about his possible decision, Robinson talked things over with his family. They all agreed with the blue chip linebacker’s decision, so after sleeping on it for two nights, Robinson made it final this morning.
Robinson chose UVA over 26 other offering schools with Miami, Oklahoma, Georgia, Tennessee, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Notre Dame being the bigger names found on his offers sheet.
