Coming in at No. 1 on the Preseason Southwest Hot 100 is (Galena Park, TX) North Shore TE DajLeon Farr, the nation's top tight end who has offers from every big-time school in the country. While he hasn't officially tipped his hand regarding who might lead for his Signing Day sig, LSU, Miami, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, UCLA and USC remain in the mix...
The Skinny on Farr: "DajLeon is an incredible athlete who fits the protoype tight end to a "T". Kid easily clocks in the 4.6-range, exploding off the line, providing a huge target in the passing game (6-5, 240 pounds). As a blocker, he may be tops in the country. He is exceptionally quick, has great feet and is extremely solid with regard to his technique."
The state of Arizona produces about an average of 25 D-I prospects a year and the state's top athlete for the 2005 class is (Scottsdale, AZ) Chaparral DT Ekom Udofia. He recently gave SchoolSports/TheInsiders a top five consisting of: "USC, Miami, Oklahoma, Stanford and Georgia."
Udofia on Udofia: "I feel like I come off low and hard off the ball and I have real good hands," the Southwest Region No. 6 told TheInsiders.com. "I study film a lot and know what I'm gonna see before I even face people. I have great moves and anticipate well. My biggest thing is to come off low all the time. I get tired in the fourth quarter and tend to go high. I'd also like to split the double teams better."
While New Mexico is famous for its beautiful countryside, they also play a little football, producing an average of 5 D-I prospects a year. The top athlete from the Land of Enchantment is (Albuquerque, NM) La Cueva DE Aaron Lewis. He checks in at No. 31 overall in the Southwest region as a DT/OL prospect.
The Albuquerque standout has recently opened himself up after giving (TheInsiders.com) Midwest recruiting analyst/expert Chris Pool his top seven in early June: "My favorites are Texas, Texas Tech, Florida State, Ohio State, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State and New Mexico.”
Accessing his player bio in TheInsiders.com Scout Database you will find Lewis speaking about his ability when he said, "I'm quick and agile. I'm very aggressive and I love contact. I want to get better at reading the ball."
