O-Lineman Talks About His Commitment

Michigan offensive lineman Joel Nitchman had several scholarship offers heading into summer break. Joel has decided to give his verbal commitment Michigan State and he talks about his decision.

Joel Nitchman, a 6-foot-4, 276-pound offensive lineman from Kalamazoo (MI) Hackett Catholic Central has given his verbal commitment to Michigan State University.

Nitchman will be a four-year letter winner for Hackett Catholic Central in 2004. He was moved up to the varsity for the final two games of his freshman year.

Joel started on both sides of the ball in 2003 as an offensive tackle and defensive tackle. Later in the year he was moved to a defensive end position.

Which position will Nitchman play for the Spartans?

"Actually, I'm being recruited as a center," said Nitchman. "I picked Michigan State because John L. (Smith) is dedicated to building champions on and off the field. I wanted to be a part of that.

"I camped at Michigan State and actually had the chance to commit to Coach Smith face to face in his office. My commitment is solid.

"Northern Illinois, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan, Bowling Green and Indiana are the other schools that offered me a scholarship."
