Orton Prepared for the Upcoming Fall
Greg Orton has received multiple offers, and may very well receive many more this coming fall. Currently, he has six schools that stand at the top of his list, although, he remains open. "The schools that stand out the most right now are Pittsburgh, Iowa, Louisville, Michigan State, Purdue, and Virginia," said Orton. "I'm still open to hearing from other schools, and will consider all my options, but those schools have all offered and have got my attention." What are Orton's current thoughts on the six schools that currently are at the top of his list? Pittsburgh: "The facilities there are very nice. The coaches have let me know that I can make an early impact, and they like to throw the ball around. Those are two very important factors in my decision." Iowa: "They are real close to me as I've developed a very good relationship with their coaches. I like both Coach (Kirk) Ferentz and Coach (Eric) Johnson. They were also my first offer." Louisville: "They signed a good quarterback last year (Brian Brohm), who was the offensive player of the year. I've really hit it off with Coach Petrino, and they've also let me know I'd have the opporunity to make an early impact." Michigan State: "Their offense is what stands out the most as they run the spread offense. They are in the Big Ten, and they are only four hours away from me. My former teammate, Ashton Watson, plays cornerback there, and he has kept me up-to-date with what is going on up there and their interest level in me." Purdue: "They have been the most up front with me, and I've already taken two visits there. That has allowed me to gain a good feel for both the academic and athletic aspects of the school. They also throw the ball a lot, and they told me they play a lot of freshman." Virginia: "They have very good academics, and I really liked the campus. The coaching staff has been really great with me. Coach (Al) Groh does a very good job of recruiting." A common theme Orton shared in his views of the schools above was his interest in a spread offense and the opporunity to play early. Is a spread offense the only type he will consider? "Well, certainly I know that a spread offense is going to get the ball in my hands and I will have the chance to play earlier. However, we are a running team at my high school, and it does not bother me to see the run used to make the passing game more effective. I just want the chance to play early, and I want to be a part of a winning program."
