David Bruton - Film Evaluation

Miamisburg, Ohio free safety David Bruton has given Notre Dame his verbal commitment. After watching highlights and a game of Bruton, it looks the Irish are getting themselves a solid football player.

David Bruton, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound defensive back from Miamisburg, Ohio claims 4.4 speed in the 40-yard dash. He had 59 solo tackles, eight interceptions and blocked three punts as a junior.

Strengths - Strong run support. David isn't afraid to come up and put his hat on the ball and he's always looking for the knock-out punch.

Looks bigger on field than advertised, tough and can cover from sideline to sideline. When the opposition tried to pass on Bruton they usually came up on the short end.

Lights-out hitter, physical and nasty, fills hard and is very aggressive.

Outstanding range and has the ability to be a lock down cover corner especially inside the red zone or in goal line situations.

Weaknesses - His strong run support caught him out of position at times. He took a few bad angles and that cost his team touchdowns.

Strong but tackles the shoulder pads at all times. Has tremendous top end speed but average out of breaks and back pedal.

Summary - Very good football player that I liked a lot, David Bruton should be a very good free safety for the Irish in the future. He’s already strong but he'll benefit even more from a college strength coach and weight-room. He could be force in the future.
