Arizona DL Ekom Udofia (6-1, 295, 5.0) of Scottsdale Chaparral says there's a 50% chance he'll go to Miami and a 30% chance he'll opt for Stanford. USC, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, his other faves, have also offered.
"Miami's got a great program and I know if I go there I'll be competing against the best competition in practice," said Ekom, aka "E-Diesel."
"That 's good for me because I eventually want to go to the NFL. Miami's a great place to go if you want to go to the NFL. I like its location and I have an interest in some field of business. Coach (Dan) Warner (offensive coordinator) recommended that it has one of the best business schools in the country. I really like talking with coaches (Larry) Coker and Warner. I would get a good chance there.
"Stanford will give me a great education. I'll also have the opportunity to play as a freshman and play with my brother (Udeme Udofia, OL/redshirt freshman). It's a factor and I'd like to play with Udeme. I've been there a lot and I like the campus and the people there are a plus. I'll just have to see how everything plays out.
"I like USC because they're coming off a national championship. I'd have the opportunity to play with DLs Mike Patterson and Shaun Cody. They're both pre-season all-Americans and its fun to watch them play…and when they leave I'd be able to play. I think they have dropped of a little in recruiting me, though. They aren't sending me as much stuff as they were. But it's not a big deal because I get so much stuff.
"I like DL coach (Jackie) Shipp (asst coach/DL) of Oklahoma. They produce DLs year after year over there. I also think it would be fun to develop as a DT over there.
"Oklahoma State is a consistent team and that has a huge impact. I also get along with coach (Carey) Bailey over there."
Ekom will take his official visits to Miami, Stanford, USC, Oklahoma and Oklahoma St. He plans to make a decision sometime in mid-Jan.
Chaparral won its first game against Shadow Mountain (37-0) last weekend. Ekon had seven tackles and two sacks.
