Hickory (N.C.) kicker Ryan Succop, who recently received his first scholarship offer two weeks ago from South Carolina, is very close to taking his kicking game across the state line.
“I’m very interested in South Carolina,” explained Succop. “I will probably commit to them soon, maybe within the next week or two. I just want to be sure.
“I’m just looking at some things football wise and academically, just comparing some schools. Right I have a couple of other schools that are looking at me very hard – those are Auburn and Tennessee and the University of North Carolina. So I just want to see if anything happens there and weigh all my options.”
Even if Succop decides in the upcoming weeks, he plans to take at least one official visit after the conclusion of his senior season, which has headed into the playoffs. In the meantime, Succop won’t be taking any unofficial visits with the exception of his visit to Columbia a week ago for the Tennessee game.
“I just wanted to get a chance to see the campus,” stated Succop. “I had a real good time.”
Succop’s leg has helped Hickory High School with field position as well as putting points on the board. Succop has connected on all of his extra point attempts (40-of-40) and only missed two field goals (9-of-11). His field goal long this year is 41 yards, but kicked a 53-yarder as a junior. Additionally, he kicks 96% of his kickoffs out of the end zone, and is averaging 41 yards per punt.
