Excuse me if I use a saying from ESPN’s Stuart Scott but Penn State “must be butter, because they are on a roll.” First it was Pittsburgh’s Justin King pledging the Nittany Lions and then Derrick Williams, in front of a national audience on ESPN news, asked blue-chip prospects from coast to coast to follow him to Happy Valley. Did Minnesota defensive lineman
Walker Ashley
get the message?
“Walker is going to visit
Penn State
on January 14th,” said Walker Lee Ashley, the father of
Walker Ashley
.
“As you probably know, I played at Penn State and Walker is very familiar with the [State College] area.
“Walker still has family in State College and he’s been hanging around that campus since he was 8-years old.”
Walker Lee Ashley had a fine career with the Minnesota Vikings after he played for Joe Paterno at Penn State. Would he like to see his son playing for the Nittany Lions next year?
“That’s a decision that will be up to Walker,” Mr. Ashley said.
“I’m very fond of Coach Paterno and I still have friends in that area of the country and I still have relationships with current and former coaches at Penn State.
“Walker has a tough decision to make. We’ve kind of shut it all down until after the holidays.
“Walker really liked
USC
,
Oklahoma
, Ohio State and
Minnesota
. We’ll see how he likes Penn State and hopefully he can make a decision.”
Walker Ashley, a 6-foot-4, 280-pounder, from Eden Prairie, Minnesota finished the 2004 season with 89 tackles and 14 sacks.
Ashley is the #1 ranked prospect in the state of Minnesota according to Scout.com
