San Antonio, Texas- Penn State has been in hot pursuit of Edmond (Okla.) safety Reggie Smith who is ranked, as the No. 22 player in its National Top 100. Smith is in San Antonio, Texas this week for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Smith sat down to discuss his options with Scout.com.

Edmond (Okla.) Sante Fe safety Reggie Smith, 6-1 and 192-pounds, still lists his top three as Oklahoma, Nebraska, and USC. Two teams are contending for his final visit, and a shot of landing the No. 2 safety in the nation according to Scout.com. Penn State and Texas A&M are the finalists vying for that last official visit.

“I’m interested in both programs right now,” Smith said. “Penn State defensive backs coach Brian Norwood came to my house last Monday. They’ve been pursuing me pretty hard.”

Penn State is in the mix, but has some work to do to catch his three leaders. The five-star standout has noticed the additions of fellow five-star prospects Justin King and Derrick Williams.

“They seem to be recruiting the right kind of people to turn that program around out there,” Smith said.

Smith will likely decide next week which school will get the last official trip.

“I should have an idea by late next week,” Smith said.

As a senior, Smith rushed the ball 122 times for 935 yards and nine touchdowns. He caught 47 passes for 607 yards and eight scores. Defensively, he had 63 tackles and six interceptions (two returned for touchdowns). He also retuned three punts for TDs as well. Smith played running back, wide receiver and free safety and finished his career with 28 interceptions.

The U.S. Army All-American Bowl is played in San Antonio, Texas, at the Alamodome on Jan. 15, 2005, and broadcast nationally on NBC at 1 p.m. eastern.
