Devin Parrish, the younger cousin of former Miami standout wide receiver Roscoe Parrish, will be one of the top wide receiver prospects from South Florida this season. He has one major SEC offer and a verbal offer from a Big 10 power. More are certainly on the way with the May Evaluation Period starting next month.

Roscoe Parrish (Miami wide receiver) was a hot commodity at the end of the recruiting season several years ago. Parrish, who had been committed to Ole Miss, ended up signing with Miami and he made his decision in the 11th hour to the ‘Canes. This will not happen with his cousin, Devin Parrish. Devin may end up following Roscoe’s footsteps to Coral Gables but he will enter the May Evaluation Period next month as one of the top prospects from Dade County among the class of 2006. In fact, he already has a scholarship offer from Tennessee and a verbal offer from Ohio State.

Parrish, 6-0 and 169 pounds, runs in the high 4.4, low 4.5 range. He stars on both sides of the ball at wide receiver and cornerback. Last season as a junior at Hollywood Christian High School he caught 13 passes for 370 yards and scored five touchdowns. Defensively he recorded 20 tackles.

”As a receiver I have good hands and I make plays,” said Parrish. “I have that shake ‘n bake and I am a playmaker. I am just like Roscoe only I am bigger. As a corner, I have a good understanding of what the receiver is going to do because I play the position. I can tell by just the way the line up and react.”

Devin has learned a lot from his good friend and cousin Roscoe. Roscoe will be a high draft pick next month in the NFL Draft and he had a super career for his hometown Hurricanes.

”He (Roscoe) has taught me a lot,” said the younger Parrish. “Roscoe mainly taught me to be prepared… to study the game and the players. He told me I need to understand how to read defenses and know what you are going up against.”

Will Devin follow Roscoe to Miami and play for the Hurricanes?

“I always wanted to play for UM. I love UM. But right now I am open and I want to see who’s interested in me and check everyone out. I have lots of friends that grew up wanting to play for Miami but they signed elsewhere like Lorenzo Ferguson (Auburn), J.R. Bryant (FSU) and Dan Guthrie (Florida). I really want to see what I like and where I fit in. Roscoe wants me to go to Miami but even he told me to make the decision that is best for me.

“Right now I like Miami, Tennessee, Florida, Auburn, Texas, Ohio State and Georgia. If all things are equal at the end I know Miami could be tough to beat but that’s why I have to check everything and everyone out.”

Parrish plans on camping at Ohio State this summer. He is currently going to Gulliver Prep in Miami after leaving Hollywood Christian. Parrish spent his freshman season at Miami Southridge.
