Sheldon Dennis is one of the top athletes from Central Florida. Dennis, 6-3 and 210 pounds, plays running back for Lakeland (Fla.) Jenkins High School. Last season as a junior he rushed the ball 126 times for 1,006 yards and scored 10 touchdowns. In addition to his running back duties he will also play linebacker and strong safety this upcoming season. So who is showing the most interest in Dennis?
”Akron has offered me a scholarship,” said Dennis. “Teams like Indiana, Pittsburgh, Louisville, Auburn, South Florida, Florida, Florida State and Miami are also recruiting me.
”Right now I really like FSU, Florida, Auburn and Louisville.
”I grew up a Seminole fan. That is my dream school. If they offer me it could be over very soon.
”Auburn is recruiting me as hard as anyone. They have a good running back situation because they lost two great ones so that’s a good situation for me.
“Florida is a home-state thing. I can’t say much about them because I grew up a FSU fan but I sure like Urban Meyer. I mean I really like that guy’s style. He is all business.
”Louisville is also showing me a lot of interest. They came through this spring and they have called. They are also an up and coming program.”
Dennis says he carries a 2.25 grade point average and will take the SAT next month (June 11). He is also taking a SAT class and planning on taking some night classes to make up some ground in the classroom. His team plays Gulfport (Fla.) Boca Ciega this Friday in a jamboree.
