Kurt Coleman, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound, defensive back from Clayton (Ohio) Northmont has several scholarship offers and he’s narrowed down his school choices to five last night. Coleman visited Kansas State earlier this week and he’s headed to Iowa City today for a visit with the Iowa Hawkeyes.

“I have things narrowed down to Ohio State, Kansas State, Iowa, Tennessee and West Virginia,” Kurt Coleman said.

“All of those schools have offered me a scholarship. I visited Kansas State yesterday and that was a good trip.

The football stadium at Kansas State doesn’t seat as many people as most of the Big Ten schools but all the seats are on top of the field and that can be intimidating. Kansas State was definitely better than I thought it was going to be.”

At the time of this interview, Coleman was on his way to the airport for an unofficial visit with Iowa.

“I’ll be at Iowa for a few days and I’ll be visiting Ohio State next week and I’ll be going down to Tennessee soon.” Coleman said.

“I’ll be verbally committed by the end of the month. I’m going to visit all of my favorites and make the best decision.”

Coleman told Scout.com that he didn’t play football his sophomore year because he had an injury and that made his junior year even more speciail.

“I have great teammates and great coaches,” Coleman explained. “I couldn’t have accomplished anything without them.

“I had an unbelievable junior year. I’m not talking so much about stats as I am just talking about how much fun I had.

“I had a chance to go up against Javon Ringer who signed with Michigan State. Ringer was incredible. He’s be far the best player I have ever played against.

“I also had my best game against Springfield South and I picked off (D-1 recruit) Brennan Glass two or three times. It was a year that I won’t forget.”

Coleman plays bigger than he is and he’s also deceptively fast. Kurt could play cornerback or safety at the next level. He just wants to be a leader.

“I get everyone in place out there,” Coleman said. “I’m the quarterback of the defense. I take command on the field and get my teammates where they need to be. I love to hit and I can also lock down the top receivers on any team.”

Kurt Coleman is a “Top 10” Ohio prospect as well as a Midwest “Hot 100” selection according to Scout.com
