Wide receiver/cornerback Jeremy Maclin (6-0, 175, 4.45) claims recent offers from Kansas, Texas Tech, Northwestern, Oklahoma and Louisville. He's also been offered by Michigan State, Illinois, Missouri, Mississippi, Indiana and Iowa.
"Right now…out of the schools that have offered me, I've got more interest in Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri and Michigan State," said Maclin, from Kirkwood SR High School in Kirkwood (Mo.). "Those are the schools that are just bringing more the table at this point. I don't have a leader right now.
"All of these schools are recruiting me as a wide receiver, except for Texas Tech who wants me for both receiver and corner. I definitely want to play wide receiver in college," he said.
"The coaches at Texas Tech just want someone they can put on both sides of the ball. I like how they run a five-wide on offense. It's also real hard for programs to get some good DBs, so I wouldn't mind playing the position at Texas Tech if I were to go there. I prefer wide receiver though.
"Oklahoma has got some good coaches and they've got a solid offense that will both pass and run the ball. They're going to be good for a long time. They've just got the players and the coaches that will keep that program at the top," he said.
"Iowa also has a great coaching staff. Coach (Kirk) Ferentz has turned that program from nothing into one of the top programs in the nation. I've just got this feeling that he's going to bring a national championship to the school by the time I graduate from college, and I'd love to be a part of something like that."
"Illinois is a program where I could earn some early playing time right away. Coach (Ron) Zook is a good guy and he's friendly. He also knows how to win and he's recruiting some good players there now. I feel he's going to do some good things there also.
"I like coach (Gary) Pinkel from Missouri," said Maclin. "He's a good guy and a good coach, I mean look how he turned Toledo's program around when he was there. He's going to do it with Missouri too. I've also got a chance to play early there. They're getting some good talent in there and they've got some good QBs. They're really rising up and starting to get good."
"I like how Michigan State's program is trying to pass the ball a lot more. They've actually always been a favorite of mine…they just play a great style of football. I also got a chance for some early playing time there as well. Plus, coach (John L.) Smith was a great coach at Louisville a few years ago, and he's doing a great job with Michigan State's program as well.
"I know that I've basically ruled out Northwestern at this point. I just don't think it would be a good fit for me. It just seems that I'd experience a lot more academic pressure there. They're a great school and a great program though.
"I've also got interest in schools that haven't offered me, like Georgia Tech, UCLA and Arkansas. I don't know if those programs are going to offer me anytime soon," he said.
"I'm looking to probably commit to a program during the season, after I've taken a couple of official visits and after more offers come in."
Maclin has already been to camps at both Illinois and Iowa.
"I might take in one more camp this summer to either UCLA or Colorado. I really want to get out for unofficial visits to Oklahoma, Michigan, Michigan State and Notre Dame. All of those schools are so close to each other, so I think I could maybe be able to see them all at once."
3.2 GPA/June 11 second-time ACT--"I got an 18 on the ACT the first time I took it. I took it again to see if I could get a better score. So far, I'm fully qualified."
