The votes are in and the tally has been counted. Who is the best player in the West? Well, early projections have an offensive lineman beating out a linebacker and a safety for top honors. Who are they? Read on...
Steve Schilling
, a 6-foot-5, 290-pound offensive lineman from Bellevue, Washington, scored a unique double-dip Monday. Schilling was named Scout.com's number-one player in it's preseason rankings of the top 100 players in the northwest and in the west. Schilling - who plays both ways for the Wolverines as they try and capture their fifth straight class 3A title this fall - is a true road-grader that also has the ability to get downfield in a hurry. He plays through the whistle and feasts on pancakes. He has offers from basically every top D1 school in the country, and with good reason.
Schilling just beat out Colton, California linebacker
Allen Bradford
for the top spot. Bradford, at 6-foot-0 and 222 pounds, is freakishly athletic and loves to lay the lumber. He's very quick in disrupting backfields and moves from sideline-to-sideline as well as any LB in the west. Speaking of athletic, Seattle (Wash.) O'Dea S/WR
Taylor Mays
just might be the best pure athlete on the west coast. At 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, Mays runs a legit 4.5 40. He's been timed this spring at 10.5 for the 100. With that blend of size and speed, Mays will be able to write his ticket to any D1 school in the country.
