Illinois Lands All-State Athlete

ATH Garrett Edwards

Garrett Edwards, a three-star, Midwest "Hot 100" prospect, according to, gave Illinois his verbal commitment. The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder, from Downers Grove (Ill.) North led his team to a state championship as a junior and was named all-state. The decision to pledge Illinois was an easy one for Edwards.

"Illinois recruited me the hardest out of any of the schools that were interested in me." Garrett Edwards said.

"I knew that I wanted to commit before the season and it really came down to Iowa and Illinois. Iowa didn't offer and Illinois did.

"Coach (Curt) Mallory is recruiting me and I told him that I wanted to commit while I was on campus last weekend. I'm excited about the direction of the football program. I'm looking forward to a bright future at Illinois."

Edwards is a terrific athlete with legit speed and athleticism. He has the leadership skills and smarts to play free safety at the Big Ten level.

As a junior, Edwards rushed for 1,800 yards, passed for 900 yards and combined for 38 touchdowns. On defense, Garrett had three interceptions. He was named all-state by several news publications.
