Bringin' the Funk to Nashville

Jared Funk, a Midwest “Hot 100” selection, according to Scout.com, has a load of upside and several major D-1 schools had the 6-foot-2, 180-pound, gunslinger, from Arlington Heights (Ill.) St. Viator, on their recruiting boards. Funk decided to end his recruitment following an extraordinary visit to Vanderbilt.
“I’m committed to
Vanderbilt
,” said
Jared Funk
. “There’s no doubt in my mind that if I waited to commit after the season that more schools would have offered. I think I was on everyone’s ‘wait and see’ list.
“When I went down to Nashville, I fell in love with the (Vanderbilt) campus. Vanderbilt was my only offer. They play in the SEC and I’m hoping that I can help turn things around at Vandy like I have at St. Viator.
“Vanderbilt is a very strong academic institution. I’m going to major in Economics or Engineering. I haven’t decided yet. I don’t think I have to decide on a major until my sophomore year.
“Vanderbilt is a school that has everything that I want and I thought Nashville was awesome. I just don’t think I could go wrong with my decision.”
Funk’s St. Viator Lions play in the East Suburban Catholic Conference, that’s the same conference that produced my former teammate at Joliet Catholic and former Vandy signal caller John Gromos.
Funk threw for 1,800 yards as a junior and was named all-conference and all-area. Jared is an accurate quarterback with a live arm. He can throw on the run and he moves around in the pocket extremely well.
Funk isn’t afraid to run the ball and he can keep defenses honest with his speed. He can make every throw on the field. He throws the slant extremely well and he throws the fade with excellent touch and feel.
Vanderbilt is getting an excellent student-athlete in Jared Funk. Funk is also a student of the game. Jared is very humble and he has impeccable character.
