The class of 2006 state rankings are here, and today's list includes appearances from California, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

  • State Rankings
  • California 100
  • Mississippi 30
  • Oklahoma 30
  • Virginia 30
  • Wisconsin 15
  • Tomorrow: Florida, Washington, Michigan, Colorado, South Carolina
  • The state of California continues to dominate the rankings, with eight players among the top fifty prospects in the nation and over forty players earning a four star status.

"When it comes to recruiting out west, California is where it all begins and ends. Los Angeles is always stacked to the limit with talent and this year is no exception," says West recruiting analyst Chris Fetters. "With players like Stafon Johnson, C.J. Gable, Allen Bradford, Darian Hagan, Jr., Konrad Reuland, Jonas Mouton, Devin Ross, Terrence Austin, Jamere Holland, Shareece Wright and Chane Moline all coming from that hotbed of prep potential, it's no wonder coaches from all over the country fit in a trip to Southern California at some point during their May recruiting period schedule."

Balls will fly through the air a little more in Virginia with wide receivers dominating the rankings. The top three players in Virginia are five star wide receivers, thanks in part to a new transfer into the state this fall.

    Vidal Hazelton
"Vidal Hazelton moving to Hargrave from New York really shook everything up in Virginia. The number two player in the region just adds to a group of tremendous receivers including Percy Harvin, Chris Bell, and Damon McDaniel," says east recruiting analyst Miller Safrit. "At the top, Virginia is as talented as it has been since the class of 2002 and linebacker Jarrell Miller could be as good as any of the linebackers from that class."

Talented is a word for Mississippi with many solid prospects, and according to South recruiting editor Scott Kennedy, it is very deep.

"Alabama's state ranking was released yesterday to show one of the deepest classes of talent in years, and the state of Mississippi is another deep south state that is making a rebound with a terrific crop of preps. The head of the class is

    Cordera Eason
Meridian running back Cordera Eason. We loved Eason when he was running in the high 4.6's, but after back to back 4.4's in camps this summer after dropping 10 pounds, Eason may be the top running back in the south. Eason leads a solid group of running backs from Mississippi that include teammate Derrick Davis, Terry's Anthony Dixon, Lumberton's Terry Grant, and Biggersville's Alex Carpenter."

Oklahoma is led by one of the top players in the nation, Gerald McCoy, a tremendous defensive tackle from Southeast High School.

"He is holding down number one on the Midlands Hot 50. This kid flat out terrorizes the opposition. It takes more than two blockers to keep him at bay," says Midlands analyst Stacey Dean who adds that his "ability to dominate, throwing centers and guards around like rag dolls, coupled with his size, power and quickness makes him the hands down best prospect in the state."

    Jake Bscherer
The Badger State always has its fair share of offensive line talent and Midwest recruiting analyst Chris Pool believes this year in Wisconsin is no different.

"Sturgeon Bay’s Jake Bscherer (6-7/280) is a four-star prospect that has given Wisconsin his verbal commitment. Gabe Carimi, a 6-foot-7, 265-pounder, from Menona (Grove) is also committed to the Badgers. The state of Wisconsin is also home to Eric Spiekerman, perhaps the biggest offensive tackle in the country at 6-foot-9 and 390-pounds. One prospect to keep an eye on is Milwaukee (King) wide receiver Lance Kendricks. Kendricks is a super athlete that’s cut from the same mold as Larry Fitzgerald Jr."
