Hudson (Ohio) Western Reserve Academy tight end Brendan Mitchell is becoming one of the hottest prospects in the Midwest. Scout.com will release the Ohio rankings today and Mitchell moved all the way up to #22 in the Buckeye State. Mitchell was extremely impressive during the summer and he’s looking forward to a productive senior season.
“
Indiana
is still my only scholarship offer,” Brendan Mitchell said. “
Wisconsin
is starting to recruit me very hard. They want me to come visit in the fall and Coach (Bret) Bielema told that he’ll be in touch during the season.
“As far as my favorites go, I like everyone right now. Wisconsin, Indiana,
Iowa
,
Ohio State
,
Bowling Green
,
Miami
(
Ohio
) are all high on my list.
Purdue
is still in there as well.”
Mitchell, a 6-foot-3, 220-pounder, doesn’t have the gaudy stats as other tight end prospects because Western Reserve is a predominantly running team. Brendan is a very good athlete that has excellent hands but he has become a very good blocker in his three years of varsity football.
What else does Mitchell have going for him? Character, there’s not a high school coach in a 150-mile radius that hasn’t had anything bad to say about Brendan. He’s a model student-athlete that his teammates and fellow students look up to.
Mitchell also has the football player genes. His father, Alan Mitchell, played wide receiver, for the University of Michigan, opposite Anthony Carter.
Brendan is a three-sport, tri-captain, at Western Reserve, also lettering in basketball and track & field. Mitchell led Western Reserve in receiving, was named all-league in hoops after leading the league in rebound and was 2nd in scoring. Mitchell was 2nd in the league in the discus.
Mitchell will start on both sides of the ball in ’05, lining up at tight end and defensive end. He caught 17 passes and scored 3 touchdowns as a junior. Brendan carries a 3.2 core GPA in the classroom and scored a 1080 on his SAT.
