Mryon Rolle just committed to Florida State. What does this mean for the 'Noles both on and off the field?

Myron Rolle, the Scout.com No. 1 rated prospect in the country, just announced his college choice to Florida State. Rolle, from Princeton (N.J.) The Hun School, committed to FSU over Penn State, Florida, Miami, Michigan and Oklahoma.

What position will Rolle play at FSU? Rolle is an outstanding athlete that could actually play on either side of the ball at the next level at running back, safety and cornerback. He would prefer to play corner. Rolle, 6-2 and 210 pounds, would be an ideal cornerback because of the size of today’s wide receivers. Each year they seem to get bigger and bigger. But finding taller or bigger corners is a difficult task and Rolle thinks he is up to the challenge. He is more than physical enough to play that position but does he have the hips and can he make the transition to the college game at that position?

Rolle may be better suited to play safety and he could play either safety position for the Seminoles. In fact he’ll likely play the rover position at Florida State. That position is like a strong safety for other teams. It was manned last season by senior Jerome Carter. This year it will be between Darius McClure and former walk-on Anthony Houllis. That specific position is an ideal fit for Rolle’s talents because they can move him around and let him and his great athletic ability loose. There is a good chance as well that Rolle could win the job outright and start as a true freshman in Tallahassee.

Rolle is certainly talented enough to play on offense, as stated above. But with Florida State landing the nation’s top back last season in Antone Smith, they will not need him playing running back.

Last season wide receiver Derrick Williams committed to Penn State and that decision gave the Nittany Lions a ton of recruiting momentum. Williams was then the No. 1 prospect in the country for Scout.com. Will Rolle have the same impact in terms of recruiting for FSU? It’s is hard to say because Florida State consistently recruits so well but it certainly will not hurt the ‘Noles. They landed the nation’s top prospect and Rolle is graduating early and enrolling at Florida State in January. So that means he will be able to assist the Seminoles in their recruiting efforts while he is on campus. Florida State coaches can also tell all the other recruits that the top prospect in the nation is headed to Tallahassee. Look for Rolle to have an influence in a very positive way with such recruits as wide receiver Percy Harvin, cornerback A.J. Wallace and some other East Coast prospects.
