Bishop McDevitt and Harrisburg faced off in a highly anticipated battle of (3-0) teams Saturday. The neighboring schools in Central Pennsylvania fought down to the wire, as the Crusaders of Bishop McDevitt earned a (38-24) victory.
The Crusaders won the battle, but lost their top player. Running back LeSean McCoy who is ranked No. 1 in the state according to Scout.com suffered an ankle fracture with 4:16 remaining in the game.
The U.S. Army All-American was being tackled by Harrisburg junior linebacker Xzavier Hunter when the two players collapsed into a pile up inside the Harrisburg 20-yard line. McCoy was then rushed to Hershey Medical Center.
Early reports indicate That McCoy suffered a fracture of one of his ankle bones and is expected that the injury will take eight-twelve weeks to heal and then he can begin rehabilitation. The injury is not expected to require surgery.
At this particular time it is not known whether or not McCoy will participate in the U.S. Army All-American game on January 7. McCoy was in hot pursuit of East Stroudsburg alumni James Mungro’s state rushing record.
