Jeff Lindsay, the No. 20 prospect, in the Midwest, according to Scout.com, is one of the best athletes in the region. Lindsay is the forgotten man in ’05 because of his early commitment to Purdue but his talents haven’t gone overlooked. The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder, from Macomb (MI) L’Anse Creuse North could make an instant impact next year in West Lafayette.

Jeff Lindsay realized a childhood dream by giving Purdue his verbal commitment last January. Lindsay could have waited to make a commitment, after all, he already had several schools courting him and he most likely would have had a mailbox full of scholarship offers.

“I just grew up a fan of Purdue and didn’t feel the need to drag anything out,” Jeff Lindsay told Scout.com.

“I started to go to summer camps after my freshman year and the word about me traveled to Purdue from other coaches. Purdue started to write me letters, telling that they heard good things about me and stuff like that.

“I went to Purdue a few times last year and just loved the school and the atmosphere. I knew that’s where I wanted to go to school. Coach (Brock) Spack is recruiting me from Purdue and we just hit it off from the start.

“There were a lot of schools recruiting me. LSU wanted me real bad. They would send hand-written mail every day. I’m still hearing from Indiana, Illinois, Michigan State, Wisconsin and Iowa but my Purdue commitment is solid.”

Lindsay has started on the varsity since his freshman year at L’Anse Creuse North. Jeff played cornerback and wide receiver as a freshman and sophomore but moved to safety and quarterback as a junior and he hasn’t looked back. What position will Lindsay play for the Boilers?

“That’s a good question,” said Lindsay. “Purdue told me that they’d give me a shot at quarterback and that’s all I want but I’m also being realistic and I know that I’ll probably be a safety.

“I’m 6-4 and 220-pounds right now and I can run. I wouldn’t be surprised if I didn’t make a move to linebacker in college. Purdue told me that they like to take big safeties and make them linebackers. I just want to play and I want to win.”

We asked Lindsay when he plans of taking his Purdue official visit.

“My official visit will be the weekend of the Michigan State (Nov.5) game,” Lindsay said. “That should be a great game. It’s definitely going to be exciting to get down there for the weekend.”

Jeff Lindsay led his team in total offense and tackles the past two seasons.
