Cornerback Bryan McCann (5-11, 175, 4.45), of claims offers from Stanford, Northwestern, Southern Methodist (first to offer), Tulsa and UAB.
"I was looking at Oklahoma (no offer), but now they are off my list. I still like Oklahoma State (no offer), but I am mainly focusing on the ones that have offered," said McCann, of Putnam City High in Oklahoma City, Okla. "So, my favorites are the five that have offered.
"Everybody's neck-and-neck right now; I have no real favorite out of that five. Everybody has their pros and cons and are about even.
"Stanford is probably recruiting me the hardest. They send me something about every day and I get phone calls from them every week.
"The thought of having a degree from Stanford appeals to me. Also, they have new coaches and staff and are a program on the rise -- I would like to be a part of that," McCann said.
"All of the teams are recruiting me as a cornerback. I like that position. Of all the positions that I play, this is the most fun. It's just you and another man, one-on-one. If you are good, you can own a man all night.
"I am looking for a place that has good academics as well as a good football team. Football is a big part, but I want a degree that means something."
McCann has an official visit set up with Stanford on Jan. 13. He did not indicate dates for his other visits.
He reports one interception, one fumble recovery and six touchdowns in seven games this season. One of the touchdowns was a kick return for 87 yards, and another was a punt return for 70 yards. Putnam City (7-0) travels to Mustang on Oct. 20.
He reports a 3.89 GPA and a 25 ACT. "I just got my transcripts, so my GPA is up-to-date. I will be taking the SAT probably in early 2006 -- maybe in December. Stanford has indicated that they would like to see an SAT score from me," he said.
