FSN SOUTH DELIVERS NATIONAL TELECAST OF GEORGIA HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL GAME -- On Friday, 10/21 at 7 p.m. EST, Fox Sports Net South has live coverage of the Stephenson vs. Redan Class AAAAA game from the Atlanta area prep ranks -- the fourth game in a series of five national telecasts airing across FSN regional sports networks nationwide. The schools, both in Stone Mountain, Ga., together boast up to nine players who are likely to sign NCAA Division I-A college scholarships in February.
Friday's cross-town rivalry game originates from DeKalb Memorial Stadium near Atlanta, with Bob Rathbun on the play-by-play call, Scout.com national recruiting advisor Jamie Newberg providing analysis, and Scout.com Southeastern recruiting advisor Scott Kennedy reporting from the sidelines.
The telecast spotlights several players who have already committed to Southern college football powerhouse schools, including Stephenson linebackers
Perry Riley
and
Kelvin Sheppard
(both to
LSU
) and Redan quarterback
Byron Ingram
(to
Georgia Tech
).
The field will also be loaded with players that have not made a commitment including Stephenson's
Marcus Ball
,
Jermaine Cunningham
, and
Andre Anderson
as well as Redan's
Jasper Brooks
.
Both schools have long supplied a wealth of talent to the college and professional ranks. Redan sent kicker Kevin Butler to
Georgia
and the Super Bowl Champion
Chicago Bears
, and he was the first kicker elected to the College Football Hall of Fame;
Chris Gardocki
to
Clemson
and a longtime NFL career with several teams; and wide receiver
Terance Mathis
to
New Mexico
and to the NFL
Atlanta Falcons
.
Current college rosters are dotted with Stephenson alumni, including Georgia (running back
Kregg Lumpkin
, wide receiver
T.J. Gartrell
, defensive back DeMario Minter), Georgia Tech (quarterback
Reggie Ball
), and
Arkansas
(cornerback
Michael Grant
).
FSN's national high school telecast series concludes on Thursday, 10/27, when Osceola HS in Kissimmee, Fla., visits nationally top-ranked (USA Today) Lakeland (Fla.) HS at 7 p.m.
