Brownsboro, Texas offensive lineman Lonnie Edwards is name that most have yet to hear for the class of 2007, but it’s a name you may want to remember from this point on.
“He’s a very physical player, I think that is definitely his best attribute,” Brownsboro head coach John Settle said. “He’s just as strong as he can be and he isn’t soft at all. He’s just got the perfect mentality for an offensive lineman.”
As for what position he’ll play on the next level Settle says his star player is capable of playing most anywhere on the line.
“It really just depends on who you talk to. I think he might make a really guard because he is so physical and he moves really well. Then I know there are a lot of schools that like him at tackle, he certainly has the size.”
The 6-foot-5, 315-pound Edwards is a little more definitive about his preference of position.
“I really want to play tackle in college,” Edwards said. “Texas is really the only school that I know of that is recruiting me as a guard. I just feel the most comfortable playing tackle, but I am not ruling out guard.”
It is Edwards work ethic that has already earned him scholarship offers from two Big 12 programs.
“Oklahoma State and Baylor have already offered me a scholarship. Schools like Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Purdue and Vanderbilt are also sending me a lot of stuff too.”
The low key Edwards attended camps at Texas, Baylor and others last summer and plans to hit the camp circuit again this year as well.
“I just want to be able to play wherever I go. I am going to sit back and see who all offers and check out all of my options though. I really like Oklahoma State and Baylor a lot because they have been showing me a lot of attention.”
