RB Robert Hughes
Midwest Recruiting Analyst
Posted Mar 7, 2006
Robert Hughes, a 5-foot-11, 227-pound, running back, from Hubbard high in Chicago is one of the top running backs in the Midwest. He rushed for 1,920 yards and 19 touchdowns as a junior and was named all-state. Five schools have offered Hughes a scholarship and he has a message for those schools who want him to play fullback.
“I’m not interested [in playing fullback],”
said. “I really don’t want to hear that. That's a no-no as far as I'm concerned. I want to run the ball.
"Some schools have been upfront with me and I want them to be. I don’t want to commit to a school as a running back and then be moved to fullback when I get there.”
Hughes has scholarship offers from
. He’s been to junior days at Illinois, Purdue,
and most recently
“Ohio State was real cool,” Hughes explained. “They didn’t offer me a scholarship but the coaches talked to me about
and where I would fit in. Ohio State is a great place. The stadium and facilities were incredible.
“Out of all the junior days, I’d say that Ohio State has been the most impressive so far.
“The scholarship offer that I’d say I’m waiting on the most right now would be
. Iowa is another school that I hope offers.
"I also would like to hear more from
. My favorites are Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan, Purdue, Illinois, Iowa, Virginia and Miami.” Hughes is scheduled to attend the Scout.com All-American Combine at the University of Iowa on April 22nd.
