It was only a few short years ago that Illinois offensive lineman Dan Doering was one of the most sought after recruits in the country. Now there’s another Doering in the pipeline that has the college recruiters talking. Tyler Doering, a 6-foot-5, 290-pound, offensive lineman from Barrington, Ill., will be under the microscope as a senior.
It’s always tough following in the footsteps of your older brother especially when your older brother was a U.S. Army All-American but
Tyler Doering
is handling everything extremely well.
Filling the shoes of
Dan Doering
might be an impossible task but Tyler is seeing things in a positive light.
“He (Dan Doering) actually helps me out a lot,” Tyler Doering said.
“Dan will tell me about playing on the offensive line at
Iowa
and what I need to work on and what to expect in college.
"When Dan comes home from school we’ll talk about being an offensive lineman and what he’s learned at Iowa. Aiming points on blocks and stuff like that.”
Tyler Doering started out his junior year in a rotation with another offensive tackle and then took over the starting position in the middle of the season before being sidelined with an injury at the end of the season.
Doering is back to 100% and he’s anxious for his senior season to get under way.
“I have a lot to prove to not only the college recruiters but to myself.” Doering said.
“I think my strengths are my footwork and my technique. I want to work on being a dominating offensive lineman.”
Doering doesn’t have a scholarship offer yet but he’s been to Iowa for a junior day and he’s been invited to
Illinois
for a spring practice.
“My brother and sister are at Iowa and that was the best place for them.” Doering added.
“If I end up at Iowa, great, but I’m going into the process with an open mind. If I end up at a MAC school or
Oklahoma
or
Notre Dame
, that would be fine with me. I’m looking for the best fit for myself.
“My favorites right now would be Illinois, Iowa, Notre Dame,
Wisconsin
,
Northwestern
, Oklahoma and
Indiana
. I plan on hitting some camps this summer.”
Tyler Doering has been invited and plans on attending the Scout.com All-American Combine on April 22nd at the University of Iowa.
