Thursday from Columbia (S.C.) Richland Northeast High School, Gary Gray announced his verbal commitment to South Carolina.

"I'm going to the University of South Carolina," said Gary Gray. "South Carolina is a program on the rise. I made the decision the day before yesterday, and I told Coach Spurrier last night."

Gray, a 5-foot-11 165-pound cornerback who will debut on the next edition of the Scout 100 next month, chose the Fighting Gamecocks over Notre Dame.

In addition to South Carolina and Notre Dame, Gray possessed scholarship offers from Auburn, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, LSU, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, N.C. State, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech.

Gray moved from wide receiver to quarterback for the last half of his junior year and totaled 1600 yards and 11 touchdowns. As a cornerback he made 65 tackles and intercepted four passes and was named All-Area and All-Region.

Gray plans to try to pull players to South Carolina with him, and named several prospects by name including Quintin Richardson, Mark Barnes, and Carlos Dunlap.
