"I just got back from Alabama and Ole Miss," said Stephen Garcia from Tampa, (Fla.). "I went to Alabama last Friday and went over to Ole Miss on Saturday."
"I have been to South Carolina and Georgia as well. I'm planning to take visits to Louisville and Ohio State before the summer. I went to Florida and Florida State early this spring as well."
Garcia talks about his experience in Tuscaloosa and with Alabama's head coach Mike Shula.
"The visit to Alabama went pretty good," Garcia said. "I talked to coach [Mike] Shula for a little bit about the quarterback situation. Coach Shula is a real cool guy. He is real young. He understood everything I was saying. I talked to coach [Dave] Radar for a while about how the offense was run. He told me it's a pro-style offense, and they get you ready for the NFL."
"We toured the stadium, and it was pretty cool. I was there from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Alabama is definitely a team in my top five."
The Florida quarterback observed first hand the personality of Ole Miss head coach Ed Orgeron during his visit with the Rebels.
"The visit to Ole Miss was very interesting," Garcia said. "Coach O is very intense. He was all up in my face asking if I get jacked-up before each game. He was real cool."
"The facilities were all brand new. They were incredible. I talked to coach [Dan] Warner for a little bit. He told me how they were bringing in Brent Schaeffer, and he would start the next two years. He said after that I could be the starting quarterback as a redshirt freshman if everything works out."
When asked his overall thoughts of his visit to Oxford Garcia replied, "It was awesome. I really like the town a lot. It's definitely a college town."
Garcia did not hestitate when asked his best visit thus far.
"The visit to South Carolina was one of the best visits I've had," he said. "I went up there by myself and hung out with the football players. It's a college town if you ever seen one."
"Coach [Steve] Spurrier is awesome. Who wouldn't want to play for him? I really like South Carolina a lot."
The 2006 SEC Champion Georgia Bulldogs fell below expectations, but it's a long way until signing day.
"Georgia was nice and everything," he said. "They have a nice campus, and I met all the coaches, but I wasn't as impressed with them as I was with the other schools. It was still a nice visit though."
When asked to name favorites Garcia replied, "My favorites are Florida, Alabama, Ole Miss and South Carolina. Those are the only schools I have really visited and all the schools have offered me. They are all pretty much equal."
Garcia does not plan to make an early decision.
