Washington, a pre-season Student Sports All-American, has played at South Torrance (Calif.) the past two years and put up big numbers earning All-CIF honors since his sophomore year. He rushed 1,872 yards and 24 touchdowns in just 10 games last season and is currently rated the #2 running back in the West region.
Rumors of Washington transferring have been circulating almost since the end of last years football season. First he was going to Carson, then it was Narbonne and most recently, there was were strong rumors that he was headed to Hawthorne. Former South head coach Brett Peabody is now at Hawthorne which only enhanced the rumors.
"I was close, I was about to go there but I've decided to stay at South," Washington said. "I'm just too comfortable here to leave and it's my senior year, I don't want to feel like I'm starting over. I know there will continue to be rumors all summer about that but I'm 100% staying at South."
There has also been a lot of talk that Washington wasn't as solid with his commitment to USC as he once was which is only partially true.
"I'm still committed but I've decided to take my trips," Washington said. "I've already told the coaches at USC and they're fine with it. Right now, the schools I want to visit are Michigan State, Wisconsin, Notre Dame and Oregon. I'm still solid with SC though, I just want to take my trips to see what else is out there and make sure I made the right choice for me."
