Matt Ernest Update!

It’s shaping up to be a solid year for talent in the Hoosier State. One of the top prospects is Matt Ernest out of Crown Point. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound, wide receiver, has two scholarship offers and he’s being compared to former Purdue wide receiver John Standeford. See who Ernest has at the top of his wish list.
“I have scholarship offers from
“My favorites are Indiana,
, Ball State,
, Ball State and
. I don’t have a leader right now, I’ve been to Indiana for an unofficial visit and I’m planning on camping at Iowa in June.
“I really didn’t have a favorite school growing up. I like Ohio State just because they have a great program and tradition. To get an offer from a school like Ohio State would be special.”
What are the strengths of Ernest’s game?
“I run good routes and I catch the football with my hands.” Ernest said.
“I’m always trying to get better. What I’m working on is just getting stronger and faster. I’d like to put on some weight this summer and improve on my 40-yard time.”
Ernest was dealt a big blow during the first game of his junior season when he broke his collar bone in the first quarter. Ernest didn’t return until the state play-off and he still managed to have a big impact by catching 18 balls for 384 yards.
“Matt is a gamer for sure,” Crown Point coach Chip Pettit told Scout.com
“Matt wasn’t 100% when he came back and he still came back and made some unbelievable plays for us. I’d say Matt was about at 70% for the play-offs. He’s a terrific athlete that could play defensive back or wide receiver at the next level.”
Ernest had 47 receptions for 1,050 yards as a sophomore and was an all-area and all-conference selection. He’s also one of the top baseball players in his conference.
We asked Ernest if he has a timetable for make his verbal commitment.
“In a perfect world I would find the right school and I could make a commitment before the season.” Ernest said.
“I’m willing to wait for the right opportunity to come along. If I have to wait until signing day to make a commitment, that’s what I’ll have to do.”
