It's a Given(s) in Louisville

WR/DB Chris Givens

It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Louisville and several prospects, from as far away as Oregon, participated in the Scout.com All-American combine just outside of Papa John's Stadium. Looking at what was a solid roster of football players, their were several prospects who stood out and the one shining star was a late arrival from the Buckeye State.

Chris Givens, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound, wide receiver/safety, from Chillicothe, Ohio, is a prospect that I first noticed while doing position rankings last week. Givens looked like a solid receiver but he really opened my eyes on the defensive side of the ball.

Givens is a tenacious defender with very good coverage skills. While Chris worked out with the receivers in Louisville and drew rave reviews from my colleagues at Scout.com as well as coaches working the combine, I still feel he's destined to be a safety in college.

Givens told us that most of his scholarship offers have come from MAC schools with Cincinnati being the only exception. Like Tyler Nielsen and Cody Hundertmark at Iowa, we feel that Chris Givens will see his stock explode in the next few weeks.

Louisville's Bobby Petrino and Michigan State's John L. Smith along with coaches from Kentucky, Tennessee, Purdue and several other D-1 programs kept a close eye on Givens as he went through his work-out.

We'll have more on Chris Givens including quotes on favorite schools and camp plans this evening.
