The Hoover Bucs won the tournament in 2005 with an outstanding performance from junior quarterback Ross Wilson. The senior will have a big new target in wide receiver and recent transfer Brandon Clear. Dennis King is a key weapon out of the backfield and expects to have a big weekend as well.
Foley, (Ala.) has a star quarterback of their own in Roosevelt Byrd. He is one of the top signal callers in the state and holds a scholarship offer from Missippippi State. His main target for the weekend is Julio Jones, one of the top juniors in the South.
Phelon Jones
Mobile's McGill-Toolen is the final team from Alabama competing in the tournament. Hoover barely escaped with a win over the Yellow Jackets during a spring jamboree game, and Miami verbal commitment Phelon Jones will play quarterback, wide receiver and cornerback during the event.
Willy Korn, from Byrnes High School in South Carolina, made a strong case as the top quarterback in the 2005 tournament despite Scout.com top ranked signal caller Mitch Mustain, who also competed. Korn, ranked by Scout.com as the fourth best in the country for 2006 will bring his team to Hoover with a new addition. Wide receiver Xavier Dye transferred to Byrnes from Greenwood High School and both have given their verbal pledge to Clemson.
The sleeper team to win the tournament is Columbia-Rock Bridge, (Mo.). Logan Gray is the signal-caller and one of the most talented dual-threat quarterbacks in the country. Scout.com ranks Gray as the 12th best quarterback, and he will bring a big talented target in Aron White. The four-star tight end has scholarship offers from coast-to-coast. Gray will also have running back and Northwestern verbal commitment Scott Concannon running routes out of the back field, and Brandon Gerau will make some noise from his wide receiver and cornerback positions.
Caleb King
Lilburn-Parkview, (Ga.) will showcase their best talent in recent years with Scout.com's third best back in the country Caleb King. His quick burst and explosiveness out of the backfield is hard to stop. He will have another opportunity to prove his ranking this weekend.
Springdale, (Ark.) came up short in the championship game in 2005 falling to Hoover after battling back in the heat and loser's bracket. The Bulldogs return hoping for payback, but this team does not boast the same talent level. They will bring Texas verbal commitment tight end Zack Pianalto as their playmaker.
Shiloh Christian is another team competing from Springdale, (Ark.). The quarterback-receiver duo of Matt Simpson and Crosby Tuck will gain a lot of attention during the event. Tuck recently announced his verbal commitment to the Razorbacks.
Jefferson Hills-Thomas Jefferson, (Pa.) had a solid tournament in 2005, and they look to compete at the same level this week. Tight end Chris Drager is a verbal commitment to Virginia Tech and wide receiver Dom DeCicco is a verbal to Pitt. Tailback Dan Giegerich will add some excitement to this squad as well.
Nate Brown
Harrisburg, (Pa.) quarterback Nate Brown is a big, athletic passer joining the signal callers in Hoover and will have wide receivers Lavar Burhannan and Carlos Smith as prime targets. Running back Darrius Hodge will supply a key ingredient to the Cougars as well.
Two schools from Memphis (Tenn.) will compete in the tournament. Memphis University School is led by senior quarterback Michael Park. Park is attracting
interest from the majority of schools in the South.
Wooddale High School will send their star receiver Roderick Davis. Davis has picked up numerous scholarship offers from across the South including home state school Tennessee. He will connect with his quarterback Jeremy Perry throughout the tournament.
