A couple of Mountain West schools are busy in Southern California, while a Big Ten program makes an offer to a four-star Golden State cornerback.

-Four-star cornerback Omar Bolden out of Colony High in Pomona, Calif., picked up his third offer this past week, and it was a big one for Bolden. Michigan, who has long recruited California well, particularly in the secondary, offered Bolden and it left an indeliable mark on the speedster. "I was shocked but happy," Bolden said about the offer. UTEP and Washington were the first two schools to offer him. This fall will be the first time Bolden plays cornerback exclusively, he was primarily a running back for Colony. But Bolden, who ran a 4.35 forty at the Scout Combine, has the athleticism and speed to be an elite defensive back.

-Fresno State isn't typically known for offering guys early in the process, but an offer they extended to linebacker Chris Carter out of Kaiser High in Fontana could prove to be a smart one. Carter has Pac-10 offers and his brother David signed with UCLA in February. But Carter is also best friends with Bulldogs' running back Lonyae Miller, one of the top prospects Fresno State has ever signed. Carter took an unofficial visit to Fresno State over the weekend and was offered by the Bulldogs. Despite offers from Washington, Oregon State and Colorado State, Carter said the Bulldogs have moved to the top of his list. "I loved my trip and knowing Lonyae is there helps. Plus, Fresno State is not going to be scared to play anyone, so I know I’d go up against the best players and best teams.”

-Reggie Dunn, a four-star receiver from Verbum Dei in Los Angeles, has his first official offer, from Oregon and the Ducks have moved into the speedy pass-catcher's top three. Arizona had long held a spot in the mix, along with local schools UCLA and USC, but the Ducks offer, and the lack of contact from the Wildcats staff has allowed the Ducks to move into the mix. Dunn is arguably the fastest player in the state in 2006. Arizona State has verbally offered Dunn and Cal also is showing signs of interest in Dunn.

-Malachi Lewis, the third-ranked running back in the state out of Rio Mesa High in Oxnard has around 30 offers on his plate, but none was bigger than the offer he received from SEC powerhouse Georgia. "Coach (Tony) Ball saw my film and offered me that same day." Lewis remains wide open at this point and he's hoping to get official offers from both of the hometown schools as well as Notre Dame. "USC hasn’t offered but they keep telling me, when I’m ready to be a Trojan, to let them know. UCLA said they were offering me, but I haven’t gotten the letter just yet. (Notre Dame assistant) Coach (Brian) Polian said for me to let them know if we need to start speeding things up,” said Lewis. “I’m really looking all over the country. I’m open to going anywhere. I just want to find the best situation for myself.”

-Meanwhile, Lewis' teammate, cornerback Josh Harrison, added his fourth offer, from Boise State, and the Broncos have joined fellow in-state schools Idaho and Idaho State in offering. Nevada has also offered Harrison, who had the best long-jump mark in California in 2006. Harrison took an unofficial trip to Boise State and received an offer from the Broncos staff on his visit.

-Utah has scoured the Golden State for some talent and has received two commitments from California prospects. Tight end Dallin Rogers from Union Mine in El Dorado committed to the Utes as did receiver James Carter from Canyon Springs in Moreno Valley.

-Carter's teammate and quarterback, Jacoby Mitchell, has picked up an offer from fellow Mountain West school Colorado State and Mitchell has given the Rams a soft verbal. He's still being pursued by Arizona State, Colorado, Idaho and UNLV. Another Mountain West school, Wyoming, has offered Arcadia tight end/defensive end Kevin Hess, the first offer for Hess.
