Washington, D.C. linebacker Romale Tucker hasn't held back who his favorite
school was this summer and he finally closed the deal making his verbal
commitment on Sunday. "I committed to Virginia today, a few hours ago,"
Tucker said. "I called coach Mike London and told him that I wanted to
commit and he was really excited. He just told me that it was great and he
congratulated me. He said that he thought that some other schools were
sleeping on me but that they saw a great athlete that they wanted to come
play football for them."
The 6'3", 210-pound Tucker had his mind made up for awhile now but one key
piece to the puzzle fell into place this weekend. "Coach London talked to
my coach this weekend and told him that Virginia had sent out a written
offer this weekend," Tucker said. "Once I found that out, I knew that was
where I wanted to go so I called Coach London and committed. I was at
Virginia this summer and I just knew that it was the place that I wanted to
be. I got to meet the coaches and sit in on some meeting and they really
showed me everything. I kind of got to learn their language and how they do
things and I really liked it. Coach Al Groh was someone that I was really
comfortable with as well."
Tucker is pretty much set on his decision so his next step is to set up a
visit and perhaps do a little recruiting on his own for the Cavaliers. "I
am going to take an official visit but I am not sure when," Tucker said. "I
do want to get down there and meet the guys on the team and everything and
see a game." Tucker has a teammate that just might have the talent to make
Cavaliers fans happy as well. "I am going to try to bring my teammate
Marvin Austin to Virginia with me," Tucker said. "I know that when he
narrowed down his schools he had Virginia on his list and I know that he has
a close relationship with Coach Mike London so we will see. We went to a
game together at Virginia against Virginia Tech last year and we had a great
time. It is up to him, but I will try to bring him with me because he is a
great player."
Tucker also had a few words for Hoo Nation as an incoming recruit. "I just
want the fans to know that they have another great athlete coming ," Tucker
said. "They showed me love and so I am showing some love back. I am glad
to be a part of the team and I love Virginia so I look forward to their
support."
