OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA. – Gerald Jones of Oklahoma City has been named a 2007 U.S. Army All-American. Jones joins a group of extraordinary student-athletes selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Saturday, January 6, 2007 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
This classic East vs. West match-up will be televised live on NBC at 12:00 Noon (CST) and will feature the nation’s top 80 high school football athletes.
Gerald Jones
is a standout wide receiver at Millwood High School and was one of 400 players nominated nationally and then ultimately selected by the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Committee. The committee consists of Scout.com, Tom Lemming, and SportsLink.
While Jones will play as a wide receiver, he is the number nine running back prospect in the country by Scout.com, a four star player and a member of the Scout.com National 100.
"Versatility best sums up this youngster's talent," said Allen Wallace, national recruiting analyst for Scout.com. "One of his high school coaches said they did not send out any defensive video of Jones playing safety. If they had, every school would want him to play on that side of the ball. As it is, Jones has schools recruiting him for quarterback, running back, wide receiver and defensive back. Excellent size, speed, quickness and change of direction. Good hands too."
Schools across the country would take Jones for whatever positon he would like to play. He lists several schools among his favories and has yet to schedule any official visits outside of his trip to San Antonio.
Director of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Garrett Shea said "he is a tremendous athlete, excelling as a shut-down corner and at various offensive positions. At defensive back, he shows a great combination of strength, speed and quickness, making him nearly impossible to separate from. In addition, he shows great instincts and smarts, constantly making great plays on the ball. Gerald Jones is a terrific all-around athlete and the Bowl is proud to have him join the U.S. Army All-American class of 2007.”
