TEXARKANA, TX – Ryan Mallett of Texarkana has been named a 2007 U.S. Army All-American. He is the second Texas athlete to be selected to the WEST Squad. Ryan Mallett and Terrance Toliver (Hempstead) will join a group of extraordinary student-athletes selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Saturday, January 6, 12:00 Noon (CST) and will feature the nation’s top athletes.
Since its inception, the U.S. Army All-American Bowl has been a key launching pad for America’s future college and NFL stars. Mallett joins the likes of Reggie Bush, Vince Young, Brady Quinn, and Adrian Peterson who all made their national debuts as U.S. Army All-Americans.
Ryan Mallett
is rated as one of the nation's top twenty prospects according to Scout.com and is the number two signal-caller in the country.
"Mallett has one of the stronger arms in the country and has shown the ability to throw the ball 70 yards," said Jeremy Patterson, Southwest recruiting analyst for SCout.com "He also has excellent footwork and overall mechanics to go along with his exceptional 6-foot-6 height."
Mallett is a standout quarterback at Texas High School and was one of 400 players nominated nationally and then ultimately selected by the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Committee. The committee consists of Scout.com, Tom Lemming, and SportsLink.
"Ryan Mallett might have the most potential of any quarterback in the country," said Garrett Shea, Director of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. "He is the prototypical pocket passer, with tremendous size and arm strength. In addition, he is extremely accurate in both underneath and deep passing, forcing the defense to constantly be on top of their game. He also has the ability to move around outside the pocket, making him even more dangerous. Ryan Mallett is a terrific all-around athlete and the Bowl is proud to have him join the U.S. Army All-American class of 2007."
