Brown A Solid Selection
Posted Oct 23, 2006
GILMER, TEXAS – Curtis Brown of Gilmer has been named a 2007 U.S. Army All-American. He is the third athlete from the state of Texas and the second Texas Longhorn Commit to join the West Squad. Brown will join a group of extraordinary student-athletes selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Saturday, January 6, 12:00pm (CST) and will feature the nation’s top athletes.
“We are excited to see this fine young man represent his school and community as a U.S. Army All-American,” said Colonel Thomas Nickerson, Director of Strategic Outreach for the U.S. Army Accessions Command. “The U.S. Army recognizes the value of individual talents toward achieving team goals, and
’s abilities and dedication make him a strong addition to the game.”
Curtis Brown is a standout wide cornerback at Gilmer High School and was one of 400 players nominated nationally and then ultimately selected by the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Committee, which includes Scout.com.
Brown is currently rated as a five-star athlete, the nation's number three cornerback, and a member of the Scout 100 team.
"Brown’s sheer athleticism separates him from most who simply can't match his physical skills," said Jeremy Patterson, Southwest recruiting analyst for Scout.com "An electrifying performer, Brown has superior agility, speed and flexibility. He's also tough and hard-hitting from the corner spot."
As a U.S. Army All-American, Curtis Brown will have the opportunity during Bowl week to participate in a series of Army leadership and teamwork sessions, NFL athlete seminars, study hall sessions, and goal setting and achieving workshops.
“Curtis Brown has some of the most potential of any player in the country,” said Garrett Shea, Director of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. “Equally impressive as a cornerback and wide receiver, he has great speed and quickness, allowing him to cover like a blanket or separate from the defense. In addition, he has very good hands and leaping ability which also benefit him at both positions. Wherever he plays at the next level, he will surely excel. Curtis Brown is a tremendous all-around athlete and the Bowl is proud to have him as member of the U.S. Army All-American class of 2007.”
